Valheim Admin Setup
Setting up admins on your Valheim server lets trusted players manage the server, kick and ban players, and run admin commands.
How Admin System Works
Valheim uses SteamID64 to identify players. This unique 17-digit number belongs to every Steam account. You need this number to grant admin privileges.
When adding a SteamID, prefix it with V_ (for example, V_76561198000000000). Without this prefix, the admin system won't recognize the player.
Find a Player's SteamID64
Method 1: Use steamid.io (Easiest)
- Go to steamid.io
- Enter the player's Steam profile URL or username
- Copy the SteamID64 number (17 digits)
You don't have to restart your server after adding an admin. The changes take effect immediately.
Method 2: In-Game with F2
- Join your Valheim server
- Press
F2to open the player list - Find the player's SteamID64 in the list
- Copy the 17-digit number
Making you admin
Once you have the SteamID64, format it and add it to the admin list file: /.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/adminlist.txt
